All right guys ... you've made me have to add a response here. I don't know how much of what is being said is thought to be real or is just tongue in cheek, but here's the actual "Truth of the Matter".
Doesn't matter which end of the barrel you look from .... if it is a RH twist it will be RH, and if LH it will be LH from either end. Same with a simple machine screw, it has the same direction of twist when viewed from either end. And it all works in either hemisphere, though there might be the tiniest bit of improved efficiency I'd be surprised if it were quantifiable short of very long range artillery.
Water going down the toilet or other drain is going to go the direction of the greatest impulse, so if your toilet has rim jetting or other inlet source angulation that favors one direction over the other, that is the way it is going to spin. The Coriolis Effect is not tremendously strong on a small scale, like in your sink or toilet, but is irresistible in large scale structures, such as the atmosphere or the oceans. Of course the wise designer will enhance the performance of their product by taking advantage of whatever force nature does provide, and angle the design to be in sync with whichever hemisphere they are marketing in ...... if they are smart and want to take advantage of whatever free energy nature provides in their products favor, no matter how small.
If you wish to test this, simply fill a wine or similarly necked bottle half or so full of water and invert it over the sink giving it a slight clockwise or counter-clockwise flick and you will see the liquid swirl out in the direction of the impulse you provided, regardless of which hemisphere you are in. Or conversely, try your best to not give the bottle any flick and see how many times it swirls left or right as it empties. The Coriolis Effect of such a small moment arm (radius of bottle) is so slight that if properly done you should end up at very nearly 50/50 for your results.
