Ebay woe's
« on: October 15, 2023, 08:56:38 am »
A few weeks ago, my E-mail account got hacked & has caused me an enormous amount of trouble thus far, this thief had also got into my E-bay account & set up a sale of 3 identical items & it appears he actually sold them & received the money & then closed the receiving "Citi-bank" account quickly after receiving the funds, this person wiped out my full E-mail account (1st hint I got of something wrong) it took me days to get back in charge of my E-mail account & longer to Get E-bay to put me back in charge of that account as they had a catch-22 of wanting to verify my phone # (which the thief had changed) against my e-mail account (which the thief had also changed my password) so I had no access to either for a while. I had many calls to E-bay actually talking to a real person several times & they acted like they understood & all charges would be removed & no Neg feedback would be allowed, as you can imagine when I got back in control of my E-bay account I had several messages from the "buyers' wanting to know where there items were. since E-bay could not collect the funds from the original payout account, they (E-bay) have now decided to come after my credit card to the tune of $3,271.41. we noticed the pending charge & have since called Chase & closed this card out & awaiting another one 5-7 days. this thief also tried to take over my Amazon account (unsuccessfully so far) & tried to open an Instagram account & a tinder account under my name.
it looks probable that I will lose my E-bay account & 23 years of history & feedback through them.

message from E-bay...

Sorry to read about your problems with Ebay. Do you know how the thief was able to successfully compromise your account? It's really scary what these criminals can do.

No Jim, I haven't a clue, but he/she moved fast and I moved to slowly. I wasn't able to see what was coming at me until I got the accounts restored,  then it was a tsunami of information coming at me.

Thanks Rog. I am hopeful I can come out of this unscathed, but doubtful,  as ebay's been taken for some money & it's quite apparent they want it back...doesn't matter who from.

The extra 771 notice was quite possibly a fake perpetrated by the same thief or a new one to get you to log in and give them all your info again.

These scammers are just plain beneath contempt nasty.

Despite my contacting my credit card Co. On Saturday, Ebay was able to push the charge through on Monday, Ebay has been most difficult to deal with, it took me 4 days to get my account set back in my name and that was only by pure insistence & dogged determination & fortunately getting someone @ Ebay to do that for me, they looked at me as the criminal.
On a bit of a happy note I seem to have finally gotten a sympathetic lady that told me today that this should have been escalated to the fraud department and should not have gone this long before this happened.
Soooo....we'll see what happens, I have an email from Ebay from awhile back saying this was not my fault and would be handled, but they pressed on with stealing from me anyway, litigation might be in order. ( but I hope not) do I hear institute for justice ?

Thanks Danial
having looked around on youtube on this sort of topic I have really had my eyes opened that E-bay definitely can't be trusted. & I have known for years that they are very "Pro" buyer; they will lean that way almost every time & unfortunately people are getting less trustworthy all the time. even if this all goes my way....I will never trust them again to do the right thing.

A bit of an update, EBay warned me on Saturday that they were taking the money out of "my" account (even though the funds were paid into another account) I contacted Chase that same Saturday and told them to cancel the card and told them why and they said they would, well of course Monday comes and EBay was able to withdraw the funds before it got shut down, the good news is that Chase agreed to absorb the charge, that was very good for me but EBay is still withholding repayment, they called me Saturday (right after Gil called me) to tell me it was still under investigation and nothing had changed yet.EBay did notify me that they were reinstating me account and gave me a list of instructions on how to be a better seller....🤔 needless to say my trust in EBay is gone.
