I guess I'm just a bad "Apple"
« on: May 22, 2026, 12:13:46 pm »
Recently bought a system that requires a phone or tablet to function as a viewing screen, so managed to pick up a new old stock (NOS?) iPad, 10.7" and 32GB, or rather one that appears to have never been used much if at all. It is about a dozen years old, but seems to work perfectly ..... except. Apple will not allow me to set up an account with it, or with my MS system HP desktop computer either. I have been through the setup procedures multiple times and have three "chat" case numbers, as well as an extended phone conversation with an agent who rapidly transferred me to a supervisor. All of this has taken probably the better part of 20 hours of my time and huge amounts of frustration, all to no avail!

All of the chat and phone personnel were really quite excellent and seemed genuinely concerned, interested and tried their best to be helpful, but none of them could tell me more than to go back and try again all the things I'd already tried multiple times, and none of them could tell me why it wasn't working!?!?

I suspect that they may well be prohibited from suggesting that "Planned Obsolescence" is a key to their profitability strategy, such that they are unwilling to let older equipment back into the fold at a certain point in time, and "update" their software on a regular basis to be sure that fully functional older equipment simply will not work, but don't ever want to suggest that is the case. Heck, their website even has a whole section that makes a big deal about how Apple "designs and builds longevity into all of their products", but what good is physical longevity against the planned obsolescence brought about by software updates???

I've heard many Apple users wax eloquently about the wonders of their products and operating systems ..... but after all these experiences, for me Apple = CRAPPLE from now on!!!

Sorry ..... just needed to vent!!!
