What air compressor do you have?

What air compressor do you have? Mines a big old industrial one. Do you use a big compressor to run/test engines or do you have a smaller lower output (silent) type?

Was at a garage sale, spotted a box of quick couplers and regulators, guy said $10.00 for the box and that includes the little compressor sitting beside it. Walked away with an Awata Studio Series compressor. It starts and stops on demand, runs really quiet.

my shop compressor is an 80 gal 2 stage 175Psi Max (plumbed into the whole shop) my inside air supply is a variable speed aquarium pump (good for up to 3lbs) an air brush compressor good for 3lbs to 25lbs.

Quiet enough that Ang doesn't mind  :) airbrush artist use them, so they're meant to be used indoors, its a Chinese model that has served me well.

California Air makes some very quiet compressors quite reasonably priced. I have a medium sized one in the workshop and a small one in the bathroom/painting booth downstairs. Very happy with them but don't know if they're available overseas.

Mine is an ancient Ritter brand dental compressor once used in a dental office to provide compressed air to run dental tools.  It is very quiet, sits under my bench and I have it wired to a bench top switch for air on demand.  it will run any engine I have tried on it at typical 3-10 PSI range.  Found it on eBay 10 years ago and aside from initially changing dirty oil reserve within, it has been flawless since.

That's close Jim , mine has the little tank underneath it & I highly recommend the tank version ,otherwise it'll run continuously.

I also have the Dual tanks model California air compressor that I used to take to my shows...it is extremely quiet and was built for contractors who had to work indoors - office type environments.

I use this one in the basement, large enough capacity for steam engines and fairly quiet. US made and was only $20 from a friend that was moving 6 or 7 years ago  8)



And out in the barn I have one of these. A friend works for the county and found this (like new) and a generator at the landfill one day. They were taken there by the local police to be disposed of as they were found stolen and the owner must not have wanted them back? or already had them replaced? The friend said I could have them as he couldn't get them started... first thing I did was take the float bowl off and found abunch of oil in it, probably put in there for storage... cleaned that out, put new gas in and it started right up  ;D

I have a very old Bink diaphragm type airbrush compressor that sits on the shelf beside my workbench. I suppose most would consider it to be rather quite, but it is louder than I'd like, and really doesn't have much ooph at all, maxing out at a bit under 25psi. I do have it plumbed into a 10 gal air tank, so it does build up a substantial reserve to run larger engines for longer that way. I also have a Chinese pump for doing tires and the like, that has a small reservoir and works up to a bit over 100psi, that I got for $5 at a yard sale, but it is terribly loud and unsuitable for workbench usage.
