Boiler to engine connection
« on: January 04, 2022, 03:11:53 pm »
I would like a way to connect one boiler to any of several steam engines (one at a time!). Is there some kind of flexible steam-capable tubing that could be used, or do I have to stick with rigid copper pipe?  What kind of detachable connector would be best, for either flexible tubing or rigid copper?  There seem to be an infinite variety of threads used.

Welcome aboard from Denmark!  :)

Personally i find that thickwalled automotive silicone vacuum hose, works best for feeding orphan engines.

Something like this:

It is heatresistant, has great grip, and will stretch quite a bit to fit much larger tubing, than indicated by the inner diameter.
Cheers

Bonjour Dave,
Having a too large boiler for my boats, I have transformed it as my "workshop" boiler. you are right, difficult to have only one connection with different machines, so I make a brass or copper adaptator for each test just after the oiler, example :

For this last test, I tried thick silicone pipes... Unsuccessfully because of the heat and the pressure which soften them

If someone knows a really armoured silicone pope, I am also interested !

Came across this site a while ago and bookmarked it, no idea of price or how suitable their product would be.
