I need a stud that holds the steam chest and steam chest cover on as well as a grub screw for the eccentric. The stub is broken off and the slotted grub screw is broken off on one side. I have not attempted to remove either of these. What is the best way to attempt their removal, and is Stuart models the best place to buy the replacement stud and screw? Please excuse the lack of cleanliness on the engine. Final question, is there a way to estimate the age of this boiler and engine? The boiler is a Stuart 500.
Bonjour,
Who has built this machine ? Are you sure he used Stuart spare parts ? For example, my friend Richard likes building English machines applying metric conversions and some other mechanics like using their own stocks.
Before buying to Stuart, I woukd kindly suggest you to verify the diameter and the thread of the missing part with its neighbour.
About Stuart boiler age, sorry, I can't help you, perhaps Stuart would be able to give you an idea if you could find a serial number on it.
Thank you. I do not have knowledge of thread sizes so not sure how to determine that.
Stuart threads could be BSW or BA as per plans but if an American made it then could be US threads which are foreign to me or could even be Metric so just buying a part and hoping it fits is a fools game .
You need something measure stud thickness and and TPI and metric thread gauge’s
