Homemade crankshaft techniques...anybody have any to share?

Hi all,
Tinkering to improve the governor latch led to a bent pushrod. Further inspection found crankshaft failure as well. Two steps forward 10 back! Looking for suggestions that might be an improvement on current revision.

Last post was most recent pic. Here is the first pic I took. Parting 3inch stock on a 9inch southbend, the things you do when your saw is 200 miles away.
