Jensen Stand Alone Boiler Piping ?
« on: July 04, 2021, 07:43:04 am »
As the title suggests I need some help piping up a 3" Jensen boiler to work as a stand alone steam source for other engines. I have the original steam pipe with throttle valve which I could rotate to go diagonally to the rear and then maybe use some kind of 3/16" ID teflon tubing ? for the steam supply to the engine but that may not be the best or even a good idea.  Hopefully someone can give me some low tech suggestions - thanks.

Larry

Hello Larry
sounds like you have all you need , I have found that with a little persuasion the round banjo fitting on the boiler end of the steam line will usually twist off as its just a compression fit (you can also refit later), then I use medical grade silicone tubing (thick walled) & have never had a blow off with the pressures a Jensen S/V can maintain.
PM me if you need further help.

For inspiration i´ve "stolen" this screenshot from Rog´s Temple of Steam website.
As Bruce says above, the steamdome is a pressfit, and any 3/16" copperpipe would fit in there, to make a very easily shaped outlet, should you prefer to have it lowered as on Rog´s here.

As the British say I'm about as "thick as two planks" today.  If I remove the banjo fitting I've got the bare metal tubing steamline with the throttle valve included but how and where do I connect it back to the boiler?  I must be missing something but that doesn't surprise me.

Missing nothing at all Larry, silly me....you need that banjo dome for the boiler...lol (I don't know what I was thinking) you can merely cut the other end where ever it suits you after the throttle for your outlet end, if you have a small tubing bender you can give it a kick out where ever you like.

That sounds better - had me going for a minute. Thanks for the info on the tubing.

I'm very interested in this steak plant setup.

Is this mostly this?

077-080
Boiler with Bricked Firebox and Immersion Heater Model#'s 20, 20G, 55, 55G, 95G

If I buy the above, and supply the board, what else do I need?

What are Jensen boilers tested to? How safe is the pv uprated to 25 psi?

The only thing you'll need is the steamline with the banjo fitting and throttle valve. As Bruce said the fittings are press fit so if you take off the cylinder block you end up with a bare 3/16" piping end to connect your tubing to - should end up with a nice setup. Apparently Roger modified the SV for 25 psi and it worked for him - better ask Bruce though as he has the knowledge I'm sure.

One quick question about the medical grade silicon tubing. Are you talking about 3/16" ID x 5/16" OD or did you get a different size and where did you find it? Thanks.
