Light Bulb for Jensen Generator
« on: March 19, 2019, 01:30:44 am »
What light bulb is the best for the Jensen generator?
I have one that has a GE 14 and another has a 352X bulb.
What about LED?

Due to them being made for DC current, and only allowing for one direction powerinlet, the LEDs does tend to flicker quite a bit, when driven by an AC Jensen generator.
(Unless driven at full speed, in which case it can be hard for the human eye to catch those on/off switches)

Otherwise they´re very easy loads, compared to incandescent bulbs, to demonstrate the production of electricity with.

Carl, I use the 352X bulb in my two Jensen 15 cast base and one aluminum base.  I just find it gives the nicest, brightest light.
That bulb however is not the easiest to find.  Jensen usually has them sold individually, I have bought from bulbtown.com in the past in boxes of 10.  Downside is they tend to burn out sooner than the #14, but the brighter light is a reasonable tradeoff in my eyes.

I have used all three, but prefer the led. They can be purchased from china at very low cost, and put considerably less load on the Jensen generators. Seems the 95g in particular does better with the led, as the turbine itself is a bit of a load on the size boiler it uses. Of course for originality, the incandescents must be used.

Carl, i´ve been a keen fan these for some time now:

They´re VERY cheap, decent quality, and more importantly works perfectly with any type of Jensen generator, including the less effective 15E.

Also, here i a very poorly filmed/edited movie i made a couple of years ago.
It compares an incandescent bulb versus a LED, and should make it possible for you to decide, whether or not the flickering would be an issue with you or not:

^^^ I ordered 20 of the above as Jan suggested for a whopping $3.32  :D

Best of all, they each came individually wrapped in mini ziploc bags (you can never have too many of those  ;)  )

I thought I had tried every bulb out there searching for the perfect one...I will order myself some of these asap.  Personally I don't like the flicker inherent in LED bulbs as shown in your video...I bought a bunch of those awhile back and still have all of them.

After 4 week trek from China...my order of 20 of the bulbs recommended by Jan arrived last week.  They are a very good option in Jensen type generators given they draw 2.5 volts/0.3 amps.  Price is very low...$3.30 USD for 20 INCLUDING shipping!  Adding to my other recommended bulbs... the 352X and 14.
