Genny + Electronics Help for an idiot

I'm having fun, but not a clue....not a single clue :)

Dug up this old hand cranked grindstone as the 'engine' to muck around with some genny's.

The PMR lights the plasma ball no problem, the Austria genny nothing, nada, zilch.

On a multimeter (don't ask me what setting its on  ??? ) they both read around 21.

The Austrian instructions are 98% in German, it says I need a diode and a bridge.

Why is the PMR lighting the plasma ball?

The PMR is a DC generator (as needed for the plasmaball).
Berger's is AC, which is why you'd need the diode bridge on it, to convert to DC.
I haven't added a smoothing condensator on mine, as it isn't necessary for the ball, but would be needed, if one wants it to run completely "flickerfree".

Thanks Jan, they both light an LED bulb, so that must mean that both AC and DC will light LED bulbs? Sorry for asking such dumb questions  ???

LED. are diodes so therefore rectify ac to dc
If you ran a ac generator slow enough you would see the LED flicker as it light on half of the ac pulse

Read about bridge rectifiers last night, rang up a store in town that keeps a couple of shelves of electronics bits and pieces and they have 1 (one) just 1 bridge rectifier in the store. Its 90c so I'll get it when I'm in town this arvo and see if it works.

Am certain itīll do the job Jim :)

If not, you could just get 4 small diodes from them, and make the bridge rectifier yourself...or order this:

@classixs

Thanks Jan I wired up that bridge rectifier in a temporary rig up and converted AC to DC (my all time favorite band by the way) and the
Austrian genny fired up the plasma ball.....pretty happy with myself  ;D

Not a chance in hell would I have ever gotten that to work without printing out and following that diagram you drew up THANK YOU!

Also splurged and treated myself to an auto ranging multimeter today, I will need to study the instruction manual!
