Doll Flywheel Set Screw Questions
« on: January 23, 2024, 10:28:08 pm »
The flywheel on my Doll 365/1 is drilled and tapped for 2 set screws. One screw is missing, and the other is not original and is too short to tighten down on the crankshaft. I’m fairly sure proper set screws aren’t readily available because the machine screws I have measured so far aren’t standard.

Does anyone know where I might find the correct screws?

Or

Should I re-tap the flywheel so I can use set screws that are available?

Thanks in advance for your help and suggestions

It should still be recent enough to use standard set screws, probably metric. it wouldn't bother me though to slightly upsize & re-tap them to something you can readily get. I'd bet wilesco set screws would probably work.

Try reaching out to Jim in here, he has one of these as far as i know.
I am fairly certain that he will be happy to measure up the screws for you :)

Sometimes those engines have an oddball fine thread of Metric.
On what I believe to be a Märklin saw bench, the grub screw broke but luckily was able to get it apart. I ordered a assorted pack of Metric set screws and one of the Metric screws fit perfectly.  It's a hex socket but it works.
