Scrap Yard Gold by Allpax
« on: March 02, 2020, 11:50:06 am »
I was looking for a pulley, and came across something I didn't recognize, but I liked it because it had a crank and gears and looked pretty "mechanical".

I found out that it was a rotary gasket maker ("Yay!") that was missing its scale bar and spindle ("Boo!").

So I made a scale bar and spindle.

Here's how it works today to make gaskets for an old hit & miss oiler.

And here's what a new one costs!

Works like a can opener--and only $.35 per pound!

Very cool.

Looks like a great piece of kit to have in the shop.

I'll need it this summer to make hand-hole and radiator cover gaskets for my McCormick Deering 10-20 tractor, lots of oiler gaskets (I have tons of oilers), a couple of carburetor bowl gaskets, and who knows what else?

This gasket-maker is worth every penny at $.35/lb....

I needed to make hand-hole gaskets too and I could not find one of these cheap/used so went with this style from Alpax for $40 on ebay (used)

You can add extensions to go bigger and bigger

I can go bigger, too: just need a longer piece of square bar.😁

Didn't realize it was that easy to go bigger, no you need to make it steam powered  ;)   :D

Look at what they want for a long scale bar!

And then there's the knurled nut that took about 20 minutes to make:

These things might just as well be really made of gold!
