Southworth Duplex 6 inch Pump
« on: May 26, 2022, 09:55:44 am »
Hi, I have just purchased a 6inch Southworth Duplex Pump that runs, but its a bit stiff on one side. So I plan to take it apart, find what's causing the stiffness and then reassemble. In the meantime  I have undone the water chest and made sure all the balls for the pump are free. I have oiled the steam chest and all the links. I have had a look on line and have found some videos, but not too much else about assembly and setting up the timing. There was no paperwork with the pump so if you have any information or advice on setting the pump up, its timing and assembly would be very much appreciated, thank you

Greetings & warm welcome to the forum from St. Paul In. sorry I don't know much about this pump, but hopefully someone here does.

Welcome aboard, DBS88.!

You have acquired a very nice looking pump.

I would have started with the packing glands on the stiff side just to make sure they are lined up perfectly and not over tightened. Perhaps you already checked.

Beyond that, it may just need breaking in.
How much pressure is required to run it?
