Bonjour Dennis,
I fully agree with you, all my oscillating machines have a spring for pressure but these engines are new so I choozed to trust the manufacturer.
I bet, not tested before buying three and lost, I will send him back as soon as possible for improvement, I hope he will get there ....
But let's go back to your CD10 (Compound D10  ;) )

Expansion links are finished .

More chicken scratch .

Pieces cut out and they need round bits on either side and I want to silver solder .

[ Guests cannot view attachments ]

Issue is how to hold in place with holes all lined up exactly ??
Had a brain  fart and thought a carbon rod would work .
So raided the welding cabinet  a got a gouging rod .
Some very careful turning to size.

After I silver soldered buggar me the holes all lined up .
After some finishing i am left with these .

Cheers
Dennis

Bonjour Dennis,
I can imagine the time you need to make these little elements which have to be accurate. I spend hours where I would need minutes in my mind to do anything as soon as it it concerns my passion  ;D
Never mind, perhaps this bloody virus gives you more time to work on your CD10.
Besides this, I had a little question : have you changed the size of the intake and exhaust openings in the HP cylinder since it is smaller in diameter than the original ?

No extra shed time for as although our country is in a “Level 4 “ lockdown I am essential industry .
Cows and sheep still need looking after and feeding .
Life goes on as normal for me .
Stuart cylinders come with the port face holes cast in place but the steam passage from port to cylinder end i drilled .
1 hole for HP and 2 for the LP.
A good idea or flawed ? Only time will tell .

Cheers

A little bit more progress.
Drag links 4 off them and all need to be exactly the same length.
Make 8 threaded eyes but only 4 have the through hole .
Screw  eyes to 4 rods .
Make a jig for mill .
Bolt rod down through eye.
Slide table across and drill hole .
Unbolt and repeat with out moving table .

Some other  minor bits have been made and loosely fitted up..

Need to finish valve rods  and gland nuts then the 4 eccentic and sheaves .

Splendid layouts and execution!

I'm thinking double the cross-sectional intake area for the half expanded steam makes good sense!!!

Well i have had a couple of days off and thought I was making progress.
I had installed gaskets etc and had all the reversing gear installed and timed ??
Applied air and no joy not even any kick or any sign of life .
Thinking is my machining is crap .
Stripped all reversing off and thought ok i will go with single direction untill run in
Then try the reversing again . So here I am making new bits and had one 0f the
Idiots ( face palm ) moments
I realized why no life or kick in it .
Some idiot has drill and tapped cylinder drain cock holes and the drain cocks are not here yet .
And I have not blocked the holes up,

Cheers
From the idiot

And it is  a bit tight and still missing some gaskets but i did put some screws in the drain cock holes .
But it does live ( sort off )

Bonour Dennis;
Already operating et 20 PSI? Great job indeed, the future will be positive. The next difficulty will be to set set the reverse, a steam machine always has a better way but both must be available.

Elsewhere, just a concern, keep you smartphone horizontal, better for YouTube  ;).

I will persevere with it and have another go at reversing .
A flywheel will help also .
As for video ? I usually hold phone horizontal but did not want you all to see the mess on
the bench .

Cheers

Doing quite well, I say!
Dennis, these types of dummy moments are great after you find them when the solution is as easy as plugging some holes.

Hang in there, my friend. You will never regret it!
