Wow, that's a really Grand display. Kudos to your son for the professional start up and gentlemanly bow. 😊

I did not know this until this past weekend, but there are only 2 original 5 HP Red Wing Hit & Miss engines known, and only one runner which is actually at a local show to me, Little Log House - Hastings, MN (45 mins away). That example is owned by William Schaller who passed away in February, I didn’t know him but my cousin worked with him at the Red Wing nuclear plant and they didn’t tell me about him till after his passing :( I will have to make it to the show in a month and see if it is still there and get a video of mine running next to it. I don’t know if it will stay at the showgrounds or be sold on… Here is an old picture of it from Bill, this is the engine that was used to design the kit

Found the magazine article from the builder of this engine. I bought it from his classmate, the builder passed away December 20, 2018

Making it even more special, I found his Facebook account with even more pictures! These will have to be printed off and laminated for display at shows. I have done similar with work from the Demon and Trevor of TTB

Caption from the engine picture:

“This engine is one quarter the size of the 1912 five HP
Red Wing Thorobred hit and miss engine produced in Red Wing, MN. This operational model was machined and built in my shop. Bore is 1 1/4" with a stroke of 2". It produces about 1/10th HP at 300 RPM. The speed is controlled by the governor holding the exhaust valve open. Stop by and we'll gas her up. It belts to my well pump.”

I have also discovered that it is almost the 15th anniversary of the engine’s first run, I will have to pick up some sparklers and glow-sticks for a night time 4th of July, “Anniversary Run”! 🎆 🎇

I see the full size has a new owner, hoping it is still at Little Log House in Hastings, MN, as I plan to go there tomorrow…

It’s fun to learn about the original, the model was designed from this green one. I have learned the new owner also worked with two of my relatives at the nuclear plant and that both are runners. I have gotten video of the green one, waiting on a gasket repair of the other…
