While that Marklin is most certainly a very beautiful engine, elegant, powerful and well accoutremented, it is by no means Gil's most beautiful engine .... at least in my humble opinion. But of course beauty is in the eye of the beholder, so this issue cannot well be determined, except by and for the individual.

As for myself, I would not want to even begin to try and name just one "most beautiful engine" in Gil's collection, as there are sooooo many that could merit that distinction at any given viewing. Of course on different days, I may well pick different engines as my tastes subtly shift with time too.

What we can agree on I think, is that this Marklin compound is in fact a truly beautiful and capable engine that offers a whole lot of steaming challenge and satisfaction.

I think we may also agree that the photo of Gil with the engine is indeed a very distinguished image of a truly fine fellow!
