Hit-miss technology comes to the steam shop.

My microcosm engine arrived today on my day off and I ran it relentlessly. It probably ended up with at least 3 hours run time. One run was 1 hour as I foolishly added fuel during the run. A hypodermic needle was good for mixing a little Marvels Mystery oil with white gas and lighter fluid and filling the (too small) tank.
The first video is almost straight out of the box.
The second video is the last run of the evening after a long run in and fiddling with the governor springs. It hit 54 times in 1 minute one hit at a time. Very steady. I discovered it does not want to run at the slowest speed possible. After trying some ink pen springs with fair results I ended up just lightly stretching the stock springs. It wants to run richer with camp fuel white gas. The lighter fluid will run leaner.
Also it's probably going to look like a "barn find" engine because it has a lot of parts that respond to light lube (0w 20 thanks Gil) and is a slinger though
not as bad at the slower tick. I wonder how long these will last because that hit has to be a hard lick on the journals. But the crank and rod are really heavy stock.

Great video and runner Tim! Sounds like you were really enjoying it too
It's great that Jin has made the scale model hit miss hobby affordable, but I think we are driving the price up

Yes Nick they are going up but the latest ones seem to be A LOT better and trouble free than the earliest ones. His new engine looks to be a winner too. It's going to be exciting when he brings it to market. I would like to see a bigger one of these. Jin makes good stuff.

Thanks for posting, Tim. Loving these little engines, and you made an easy decision easier.
You've got her settled down good in the second video.

Sounds and looks like a great day in the workshop Tim.
Thanks for the great videos and the detailed description of your fuel mixes and adjustments.
Please don’t ever add fuel with one of these running. A very risky practice.

Thanks for posting this! The second video looks like nearly perfect. Which fuel was that one running on? I was wondering if you could slow the firing down even more by increasing the flywheel weight
