Nick those Merseys with the burner going threw the wood base
is something different in steam engines. Your close-ups
and slow-motion was fun to watch. Some day I need a Mersey.

Thanks Carl, most have a drilled metal plate on the base (some even have one on both sides), but they all seem to still have burns around the wick holes. I would imagine it's a combination of overfilling, too tall of wicks and sliding the burner in already lit. I prefer to light after it's  already installed and I keep my wicks trimmed level with the tube as I'm not running anything (Mersey accessories are very hard to find)

These twins and triples (54's and 55's) bring top dollar on eBay, I would highly recommend keeping an eye out for a 53  ;)  even better a 53GR (gear and reverse)

I have seen your 1/2 size and it's very impressive! Did not know you had the full-size as well, probably made building the 1/2 scale easier than from pictures.

Great video Nick, like the way you put it together. If you or anyone has literature of the accessories would like to see that also.

I acquired the full size as boiler , firebox  , engine with 1 cylinder and no flywheel.
Was easy to make a base and standards lineshaft etc
Hardest parts was getting flywheel measurements. Had to call in a lot of favours

Have you got any brass-wheeled Mamods? In the book "The Hobbies Story", they state that the first Mamod flywheels used the same tooling as the Mersey flywheels (the lineshaft one)

Photobucket has blurred my photos so I'll have to re-upload them from the same hard drive...

The Mersey has been made much thinner but the spokes are the same:

(I'll replace the blurry ones above, but until then you can see the resemblance)

I like that quite a lot Nick, strangely addictive to watch, very nice pully stand as well.

A few more

Note the 3 grooves in the piston (top for packing, other two for oil)

Cooper's Building that was bombed during the war (Church Street, Liverpool). I have read both 1941 and 1942, will have to wait for Colin Laker's book for the real history...
