Thanks for the review! Some of the instructions for these stated it needs 12 lbs of air to run, really an encouragement that yours runs on 2 lbs or less.

I'm amazed at this thing! I've been mucking around with it all Sunday afternoon.

Yes, my first thought when I read 12lb min air pressure was there using to strong a spring holding the tension on Cylinder....you made a new screw and perhaps you set tension to a better value upon re assembly.

The best video I've seen of one of these particular steam canes Jim , appears you got a good one. that is a chunky steam chest isn't it.

Nice video ... a pleasure to watch you fondle your new steam cane. Keeping it in the steam room, you can use it as a pointer to indicate which individual engines you're talking about on your shelves!

I have the same cane, and when I got it it wouldn't run at all.

Returning it would have cost about as much as I paid for it, so I had a go at fixing it.

I made a new piston to replace the sloppy, very undersized original one, lapped the port face, and it burst into life at under five pounds of air pressure. I spent about 45 minutes on these repairs.

Happy with it now.

Good thing my very low offer was accepted by the seller!

Mine is perfect through and through as shown in the video. The hardwood species used is beautifully finished and has solid brass ferules.

I think Jim needs to belt that Steam stick up and Power something!....might be a challenge to stabilize the stick with stick pins? Does the "power head" detach easily from the walking stick?
It would be a first far as I know from YouTube videos ;)
