Stuart Beam Engine

I added a steel base to the Stuart Beam engine. Here it is running slowly being tested on air.

I often think of painting it, but the grey metal has grown on me :)

Is this the one we conversed about before you bought it a few years ago?

That is a fine machine. Did you build it? I would love to build one from a machined kit. It sure runs sweetly.

The Beam is running beautifully, Jim. Smooth and effortless, like they should. Im given to understand the base is a great addition due to flex in a wood base?
A smart looking addition to a great piece.

Very smooth and slow runner Jim  8)  and it does look great naked  :D

I really like those oilers on there and I might have to purchase them now while they're available, place them on the shelf with my beam and hope that one day I find them installed and the engine running as nice as yours  :D

Running nice and slow .
A design fault having a outboard bearing .
I am pleased with how mine turned out with both bearings onboard .

Nice engine Jim, i do like those Stuart beams and i think that was a smart move fitting the steel base to help with bearing alignment. Reminds me a bit of when Geoff built his own beam from a machined kit many years ago.

No Tim, I bought it off the daughter of the builder (deceased) who advertised it along with a Stuart unfired boiler and lots of other bits and pieces.

Thanks Benny, yes the steel base has made a good engine that ran well, run even better. As soon as you tighten the bolts down on to wood you get some flex.

Thanks Nick :) They are really nice oilers. I have them on a lot of engines now and they give them a nice finished touch (even the naked ones :) ).
