Weeden No.58
« on: April 27, 2026, 07:11:15 pm »
I was able to buy this nice little guy off @komet163b and it arrived today.  I had to do very little work to it and I think I like its patina.

I did have to remove the bottom sight glass fitting off the bottom of the tank, it was completely clogged.  Luckily it is the kind you can remove!  I did need to clean the front of the boiler, to insure when I reinstalled the bottom fitting I'd have no leaks.  Tread fitting to boiler sealed with Permatex 59235.

Thanks Jim!

Its a rather cool engine, much like my other recent addition the No.157.  I think everything on it has screws and could easily be completely disassembled.  If someone found out this engine & the 157 were outsourced, I'd 100% believe it.

I have zero hopes in finding a governor for it ..

It always amazes me how some of these old engines can still run so well, and your 58 is no exception!!!

Thanks Stoker - Wayne did a good job when it was in hands that's for sure.  I'll get a longer demo video on it soon, likely a dual video with a incoming Weeden Electric motor that I am rather excited about!

Not many Weeden's had this type of piston setup, perhaps a half dozen or so?  They are great runners and much more efficient & robust than the normal Weeden pistons. Another interesting thing, the base casting (iron) not only has Weeden but also the model number - though the model number is a bit harder to see.  Then the firebox has Weeden bits stamped into it too.  They really wanted Weeden markings on this engine!
