Thanks, guys!

I’ve come to the conclusion that there had to be a top half to the burner that maybe had one or two wicks. There was probably cotton wadding in there too to keep the alcohol from sloshing around. What do you guys think?

I think you're probably right about that Mike. Though it could be used as an Esbit tray just as is, it doesn't appear to have the typical nasty residue and stains left behind by that stuff. On the other hand, you could use Sterno in it just like it is.

I used Esbit in the tray when I ran it yesterday, but lined it with aluminum foil. It got the burner quite hot and discolored it. I think I can fabricate a top for some wicks and get it back the way it was. The previous owner has said he’ll look for the missing piece also. I hope he finds it!😁
