Boiler /engine combo - anyone recognize it?
« on: December 29, 2025, 01:35:39 pm »
On craigslist I found this engine/boiler setup.
Does anyone recognize it?  The owner has never
steamed it, just run it on air.  He said it was
made by a licensed steam boiler operator - for
what that is worth.  Operating a boiler is a lot
different than building one from scratch.

I think the engine is a Stuart 10

I did just ask if there is any paperwork regarding
the boiler's construction and testing.  It would be
nice.  Buying an unknown self-made boiler is a bit
scary.

Sort of looks like a Ross Bendixen product on the
small side.  Looks like it might be a coal burner.

Finally, the price is too high.  I do love that size.

Bonne Chance,
Wayne

It's a fine build.

I don't believe the engine is a Stuart.

I am guessing it was listed for $10k?

Well, I'm not an expert on Stuart steam products....Though
I'd be happy to foster care anybody's Stuart steam plant.

Anyway, the price is $4k.  He knows nothing about the condition
of the boiler and says he's run it on air several times.

Looks like a coal-burner from the shape of the fire-box door.

Whoever gets it will need the boiler pressure tested.

I missed a similar $1,500 deal 5 years or so ago.  Live and Learn.
