You are so right...
The best solution would be indeed to find someone willing to spend the time to sell the collection via eBay one piece at a time.
I wonder if such a person exists in my area (Charlotte NC).

I personally stopped dealing with eBay when they didn't fight the sales tax charge on used items. The tax has been paid, many times over, and the climbing cost of shipping is certainly a factor.

The best case scenario for all parties involved, would be to find a steam enthusiast who has the kind of money needed for a very safe long term investment.
Certainly the engines made at the turn of the last century will be become more and more scarce.
In the mean time, the stockmarket is most certainly headed for a severe adjustment.
