My biggest pet peeves with incandescent bulbs was the fact they burned out all the time. I remember almost always having a burned out bulb in the house. The second pet peeve was the heat. In the summer time without AC, the heat generated was noticable and near burnt fingers when trying to change the freshly burnt out bulb. The only saving grace was the yellowish light.
You are right about the heat the bulbs gave off. I worked in a school and the exit light bulb
keep burning out because it was built into the wall with no air flow around it. Than one day
I got the idea to use a bulb from the high school football field. The scoreboard used a 220 volt
bulb so that when the game was in the daytime you used 220 to the bulb and when you had
a night game you would switch to 110 volts. The bulb in the exit light never burned out again
because of the larger filment in the bulb.
