Jensen 20G Deluxe - "as arrived"
« on: February 07, 2020, 10:39:15 pm »
Very happy with this find, but a shame that what was probably once somebody's prized engine has been neglected to this condition...  :-\

That "neglect" doesn't look any too bad to me, unless I'm missing something. A bit of discoloration due to oil staining and grunge, which at least means it was oiled when it ran, and some rust up where the firebox chimney mounts. Other than that it looks pretty good to me.

So Nick, if that is all too discouraging for you .... I'll take it off your hands, get it out of your sight, and keep you from suffering so!    ;c)

Pictures make it look better, there's paint flaking from the firebox and drip tray under the stack, pressure gauge is losing it's paint, flywheel and other small parts have rust, base is dinged up on the corners, but as you say, it should still clean up nice. Firebox and drip tray will likely be re-painted some day, the rest just cleaned and polished... I do wonder what happened to the original ID tag, I'm assuming it was a custom one with a name on it, so the previous owner removed it before moving it on. I know of a couple others out there, so maybe I can get Vpro to make a new one...

My shelves are suffering the most from the giant base-boards of this and my 55 Deluxe!  ;)

As Stoker said, doesn't look to bad to me either, I've seen a lot worse. you are correct Nick, these big board plants do eat up a lot of space. BTW, congratulations on a rather rare Jensen plant.

Looks like it will clean up well. Is the stack missing? Gauge appears suspicious unless there's still pressure in the boiler, :-). Too bad it wasn't kept more pristine. Is there evidence a name tag was on it? Good find BTW.

Great find Nick.

Looks great to me considering the vintage.

Looks like a little TLC will bring this one back. Another great piece for your Jensen family!

There's nothing wrong with this Nick, unless you paid too much. I like it a lot, it has cutouts on the side to see
more movement of the con rod. Grease cups or oil on top of the journals, and the old style cylinder head.
Is that J, on the head a decal or a stamping? As far as the corners being nicked up,
that's not the original base anyway is it?  No I like that a lot.

Don't get me wrong, I am VERY happy with this purchase!  ;D ;D  Was found for less than a regular 20  ;D ;D

You have spotted many of the features making this a special "Deluxe" model. The "J" is engraved into the head

The base is original, still don't know why they made them so BIG for these models... and the dings aren't too bad...
