Thomas Aveling Traction Engine #0166
« on: October 10, 2019, 07:17:20 pm »
Have wanted one of these for years now, and finally ended up with what appears to be a dirty, but unfired model. I am reluctant to fire it as these are very prone to cracking on the underside near the serial number... It is not known if the heat/expansion from firing causes the crack or the ammonia in hexamine tablets, and I don't really want to find out...

Congrats Nick.

Have you run it on air?

Smaller than I thought, but quite heavy. Maybe 3/4 the size of a Mamod TE... I'll get a picture tonight  ;)

That is the plan for now, still scared to put any heat to it... The wheels spokes are quite corroded and the whole thing needs a good polish...

Nick, where do you find such jewels???  Given what you know about cracking brass underside, I would polish it nicely and keep it on air.  Beautiful piece for sure.

Anything can be found on eBay ;)

Yes, likely just a run on air in its future and a very good polish... will look great on display in the living room  ;) :D

Tonight came a couple days late... oops! And that Mamod TE turned into a Wilesco  :D  As I said, very small...

Didn't realise it was as small as that Nick as thought it was the same size as a Mamod TE1a!  :o

Good looking engine Nick - that's quite a collection you've got started there.
