Woe's Carette Overtype

I have had this for ten years, tinkering on and off, and looking for some very elusive parts.
Well all I need now, so I thought, is an original burner and a stack. The ones you'll see are repro's.
Notice I said, so I thought. Well after shooting these pics, decided to steam it up for a video of it's
first one in a decade or more. What could go wrong, it runs fine on air from a little pump. It seems
there's a leak in the seam around the back cap. Not much, a drip every thirty six seconds. I hate to
think of soldering, it can get ugly. Any thoughts please send them here and I hope you like the pics
cause that's all folk's.

If it's a leak from the boiler cap, there is no escape from soldering. The Nickel plating of the edge may be impacted, but can be re-plated. That is a very elegant Carette.

This is a fine Carette and "elegant" is exactly the right word to describe it! Carette definitely how to build elegant engines with a "less is more and form follows function approach".
Congratulations!
What boiler size is this one?

A pity there is an issue with a leak.
I would also hesitate to solder that...

Pretty engines, both.  Kissin' cousins. 

  As to the leak.  A couple drops in a minute or so...not too
bad for an old engine.  I would hesitate to do anything to fix
it UNLESS it will not run under steam.  Even then, try the most
minimal 'fix' to try and seal it.  Look to this Forum for sealing
advice if that is how you plan to go.

If you can precisely pinpoint the location of the leak it is also possible to do a precise solder repair. But this requires some minute grinding at the leak site with something tiny like a dental bur, careful fluxing at the spot and very careful use of a small butane torch with a pinpoint flame. If you're not experienced with this probably best to leave it with its very slow leak, no harm done. You could also clean the spot as above and try a dab of epoxy like JB Weld or similar, pushing it into the joint where the leak is; let it cure 24 hrs before steaming again.
