Nick’s Table of Buckmans
« on: February 25, 2021, 11:11:34 pm »
I never really had a “theme” for my table last year, just ran a few engines... I also shared a picture of my Buckman Mfg. collection, and to this day I still have not ran them on steam... I would like to change that this weekend  :)

Wish me luck! if I get them running, please stop back and watch them  ;)

Nick what a table! If my counting was correct, there's 19 treasures there.

Wow.... what a fab collection you have there of Buckamns!!!

Its gonna' be a great weekend getting spoiled seeing some of these running on live steam.

Haha, I’m not sure how many I have as there are a couple 1/2 and 3/4 engines  :D (aka missing parts)

I went down to the basement this morning to gather up supplies and realized I only had about 6 to 8 ounces of water 😬

Made a trip to the store this afternoon for more and while I was out I stopped at the hardware store to pick up some “safety valves” ranging in price from 10¢ to 33¢ a piece  :D

Safety plugs look the biz :)

Probably a dumb question, but can you melt snow for distilled water?

Could, but it’s dirty. Had a dehumidifier full of water too, but that’s been moldy inside in the past. We needed groceries anyway  :D

Thank you eifion

I have to say, the little 3-legged Buckman is my favorite. Never seen another engine with such a unique boiler. The large hole is actually threaded and for a fake governor. I have another boiler minus the legs that does not have this hole. The safety cork has been previously replaced by a screw and a piece of lead to hold it down. I will keep it with the engine, but for the run I removed it and used a cork.

You can see right into this boiler if you need to  :D

As seen above, there was a homemade gasket made from paper. I wanted to make sure it was steam tight to give it the best chance of running, so made a new gasket. I was excited that it was too large for my hollow punches and I finally got to use my new to me (but well used) Allpax gasket cutter  :D  Center was punched out with a hollow punch.

That should do nicely  ;)

No wonder the rest of us can´t find any Buckmans  :D

What an amazing lineup Nick, and a nicely executed 1st. run of your 3-legged here.

Well done and thanks for sharing!
Cheers

A very nice display of Buckmans Nick , that 3 legged engine is quite unique.
