Think I'd replace that little thumb screw with a larger knurl-headed screw, perhaps even with a tensioner spring, so that it isn't quite so touchy in adjustment.

Tensioner spring is a good idea. I will leave the little T-handled needle valve where it is and try to fit a small spring.
