The hit and miss mechanism on the Jan Ridders engine uses a weight and a spring to pull the hall effect trigger magnet away from the sensor as the RPM's rise.
I got the idea from working on Fiat automobiles in the 70's - they had this type of arrangement on the distributor rotor as an RPM limiter.
I had trouble with the engine running away as the fuel level dropped - so this was my solution.
