Calling all Gas (Petrol) Heads.

If you get a sec could you have a read of this and tell me if this is the same as your Coleman gas you use for your model H&M -

Jim:

They are similar products.

Fuelite is 60% Naphtha and 10% Hexane which will fire an engine.
The MSDS sheet https://www.mchem.co.nz/site/mchem/MSDS/FUELITE%20MSDS.PDF

The U.S. Coleman Fuel seems to be mostly Naphtha with trace additives.
Their MSDS http://ferris.msdssoftware.com/ImageDir/i011DA2E.pdf

Coleman is probably more volitile.

'Painter's Naphtha' found at paint stores should be less expensive than Fuelite and it will run these engines.

I've found that the less combustible fuels don't tolerate a lot of added 2-stroke or Marvel oil.  Too much lube makes starting difficult.  Regular unleaded gasoline 40:1 generates more bang than naphtha fuel for easier starting, but it will heat up an engine quicker.

Hi Jon and thank you.

Shellite I 'think' would be what Australia would substitute for "painters naptha".

What's this MSDS read like?

Jim, it looks like Coleman fuel has a lower octane rating (at 50-55) than does your Fuelite at an octane rating of 65, provided the different countries do rate octane the same. I also can find no reference for using Coleman fuel as a brake cleaner, though I have often used it as a cleaner of various petrochemical gums, gunks and scums, so it would likely work to some degree.

I would say that while they are likely quite similar products, I would also have to say that they are at least slightly different products, though their range of uses clearly overlap.

On an off note, I would say from experience, that a gallon can of Coleman fuel can be used as a crush space cushion to a certain degree, though I am more than certain that is not a manufacturers' recommended usage!!!

See the Off-Note story in a different thread, here:

Shellite appears to be equal to Coleman's and both are better than the Fuelite.

I tried lighter fluid ( not the Butane version but the liquid form to pour like Zippo  ) and worked fine on these engines. Albeit need lubrication added . Should be similar to coleman
