Mounted my new engine on a small chopping block sourced from Amazon. Here's a photo

Paul, the cutting block base fits perfectly relative to the size of the H&M engine...I like it!

Also admired your pen holder in the background...have one exactly like it and a few more by the same builder.  It seems he is now longer making cannon/mortar models...shame as he was very meticulous.

Thanks.
I remember the cannon came from "cannon mania". It was a cool website. The chopping block has been great.
I screwed down the lid to the block with about 11 screws.. I've been running the engine all night and no problems.
I will eventually add a " mushroom bumper" from McMaster-Carr to prevent the base from sliding off one end.

Thanks

Thanks .
I've treated the base with Danish oil now. I had to reinforce the top of the  box with slow cure CA glue as it was
a kind of rattle fit to begin with and seems more secure.
