Unknown Steam Engine - electric
« on: March 16, 2020, 03:59:12 am »
High Folks - just bought this engine (ebay) for $ 23.00 - which was extremely low priced!
It is almost made from cast Alloy (platform - enginebase - boilerstand). It is only marked
220 Volt - 600 Watt! Color is all original - great condition and it works powerful. The manometer
is a dummy one - never seen something like this. All parts incl. the boiler are nickel plated.

What Brand???? Could it be from ex GDR???? The Gaselan Engines look smiliar???

Thanks for your help....

Sure looks well built. Shipping must have been close to purchase price. Well done!

Your guess that it might be a GDR/DDR produce is an understandable one, but I am sure this is not the case here.

I'd rather say this a very rare model made by WGL/HGL (even the name is up to discussion: Wilhelm Groening, Lüdenscheid, Germany or Heinrich/Henrich und Groening, Lüdenscheid), the mysterious forerunner of Wilesco.
Yes, I know, most of their engines look more like clumsy Wilesco-fakes, but there are also some engines attributed to this maker which look much more decent and well made - e.g. a really nice overtype (one once owned by Mirko...) and the cylinders are the same.

A very nice engine, I do understand why you wanted to have it.

PS: Lüdenscheid is a small town in Western Germany...

Thank you for the name WGL - but I rather think it could be a prototype of very early WILESCO
because of the Cast Alloy. Wilesco has a large production of household items made from Cast Alloy.
And look at the design - it is close to the Märklin 4097/8 or the Wilesco D24.
Looking forward to a reference...

I am happy - the engine was made by Henrich & Gröning Lüdenscheid (Western Germany) in 1950. The Company produced 12 different
Steam-engines and it is possible that Wilesco bought HGL - the look comes really close. Thanks to a nice Gentleman from Germany
the problem is solved.
Happy steaming and stay healthy, tenniV11
