In 2009 I paid £3.95 + £1 postage from Maidstone Engineering in the UK, something tells me it won’t be that cheap anymore… I can find 1/8” but I’d like some more 1/16” if anyone knows a supplier? This is all I can find on eBay…

I'm not familiar with how this is manufactured. I wonder if it's just a matter of taking plain yarn and adding powdered graphite to it if that's how it's made that would be easy to replicate as powdered graphite is readily available although not something you wanna breathe in your lungs.
My graphite yarn is made up of 5 or 6 smaller 'yarn' strands twisted together.
Take a section apart and the smaller strands ought to be the ticket.
Good Luck,

Palmetto Packings should have it Nick.
I've always just made my own Nick.
Like Komet I have always had several sizes of larger graphite yarn in the tool box. There was always a size when pulled apart that would work well. For over 25 years I had lots of large scale steam engines with all sorts and sizes of valves, cylinders etc and now just smaller stuff, the yarn I have still is just fine. I like having a selection to find a piece that works fine for what needs fixing
