Yep, those are the copper rivets - take care of the back of the firebox! If you don't, those two copper rivets will come loose and leak. The best that I could tell when I removed the rivets there wasn't any there to help seal the hole or between the firebox sheet metal and tank. I plan on putting in seals and sealant once I get my copper rivets from the UK.
When I put the engine back together earlier I forgot NOT to use the original piston. It also has a bend in it - this little guy has had a real ROUGH life! I bought a new cylinder with piston for a SR1a but the cylinder was a bit bigger. So they changed things but I was luckily that the piston was still the same size and put it into the original cylinder. Runs pretty darn good going forward now but still runs MUCH better/faster/longer going in reverse.
