There was no exhaust piping on my brass one as received, the ports are inconveniently placed on the underside of the steam chest but I managed to fit pipework without any major disassembly, basically just a simple manifold which bolts onto the the underside of the steam chest using the existing bolts.
I thought you might like to see the schools engine in steam, the video was done while testing a new boiler which I bought as an unfinished project:
