Raphael, that is one very nice little engine and it was very nice of Jin to gift that to you!

Thank you for sharing that with us all!!

Is that actually an oiler on top of the port frame?

If that is an oiler, then perhaps you had the steam and exhaust lines reversed during your video, as I would suppose that the steam input would need to be on the side with the oiler if it is to provide any oil to the cylinder ..... yes/no/maybe?!?!

Bonjour Stocker,
You are absolutely right, you have correctly recognized an oiler and I have not paid attention on the way I put my steam pipe.
Hopefully, I have let this baby steam machine run just for the video so I think I have not damaged it, at 15 PSI, the steam is water saturated and a little bit self lubricant.

I'm sure no damage has occurred due to your brief exhibitory run!

Many stationary model steam engines, of many well-known brands, have no provision for oiling what-so-ever and run for the better part of a century without any significant wear or damage!!

Yes, low pressure saturated steam is essentially self-lubricating, and so I'm certain sure that Jin's superb little machine is absolutely fine!!!

Just wanted to know if that was actually an oiler, or just a decoration, and if it was indeed connected to the inlet port. You have answered my question in detail.

Now I wish to ask if perhaps you have a boat small enough to make use of this little gem by Jin???    ;c)

Currently, my smallest project is based on a 1 cm3 machine :

By chance, I have have an even smaller hull which could accommodate this machine but I have to solve two problems at first:

- How to onstall a reverse ? 

- and above all how to avoid dead spots because this machine is single cylinder ?

It has been done, though admittedly on larger engines. By having dual control valves that essentially switches the steam line and exhaust for reversing, while also having a spare R/C channel and servo set up to "nudge" the crank off of TDC/BDC to get it moving again.

Or you could just have steering only and no reverse, or perhaps even no R/C at all, like a typical free release pond boat, as was so common in years past and even still today!

Re bonjour,

Stoker, in France we have not this culture of free release pond boat at all and our lake Daumesnil is quite too large to accomodate such a navigation, especially if something bad happens (I finished to the hospital with a foot cut because of a boat blocked by a leaf :( )

Furthermore, I have quite a large fleet but also a few more interesting boats I have to finish, the 1 cc project I mentioned is one of them, here are other examples with much more possibilities :

Bonjour Stoker,

To my opinion, the liberty ships were the symbol of steam boats during WW2, this is why I would like one operational.

My challenge is that this replica has not been conceived to receive a steam plant and I have no room any where  :-[

This is also why I will start with the Bavaria cargo as I have found a low steam engine, less than 8 cm, which power should  be sufficient:
