EngineDiyShop Retrol SE 02 First Live Steam Test

Its a neat little steam plant, I was a little amazed that both boiler end plates aren't soldered on.
They are only held in place with the centre boiler stay and they each have an 'O' ring to make the two ends water tight.
Works very well, if they ever fail I would be inclined to solder them on which would be relatively easy.

Seems like a very good quality and good looking steam plant there Jim!

Sort of distantly reminiscent of the Cheddar Westbury plant in some ways.

The difference in power and speed between forward and reverse suggests that the timing of the valve linkage eccentrics might be out of best position by a few degrees, or some similar minor issue.

To change the timing Daniel would be problematic. To make it an easy DIY construction the axle is flattened on where the grubscrews will go, not an impossible thing to muck around with but job number 101.
I was surprised on the load that little bulb put on the genny.

Nice plant Jim, I don't believe the push button light switch would bother me, seems fitt'in for what it is.😊

Its a bit tacky in real life Bruce......takes away from what is a pretty neat plant.
My Grandson doesn't mind it, but it irks me :)

It does appear these like running better in reverse than forward, I think Travis's was the same way, probably non-adjustable (stamped out) Stephensen gearing ay.

The axle has cutaway flats for the grubscrews to sit into so the timing is pretty much set Bruce (without major modding).
