Jensen 95G, Wilesco T125 How do they compare?
« on: February 27, 2023, 12:56:41 pm »
I was wondering how the Jensen and Wilesco turbines compare? I was particularly wondering about the turbine unit itself, since they Wilesco came out 9 years after the Jensen. Did Karsten improve the design much in the newer one? I was out of the steam hobby when the T125 came out, and never knew about it until I saw Nick’s video a few months ago. If I would have seen it when it was available I probably would have gotten one. The Jensen is nice but I’m not a big fan of electric boilers. I like the firebox to really have fire.
Best Regards

The Wilesco T125 I had was the finest Wilesco made imho, it was very efficient,  I put a immersion rod heater in the boiler (650w) and it had no problems keeping up with the demand for Steam.  I've heard the Jensen 95 also had a wonderful turbine( Karsten Gintchell?) Made both the Wilesco & Jensen turbines, but the Jensen was underpowered.

Thanks Bruce! I really like that. It doesn’t seem to have nearly as much gear noise as the 95G. I know Jensen wanted to use their generator, but I like that built in one. The terminals are also a nice touch. Do the tangs on the original boiler go into it like a porcupine boiler?

The 95G that I have doesn't have any problems keeping up at 15 psig running the ac generator.  I would assume that the T125 is more efficient in steam usage just due to the 95G being open on one side so that you can see the blades spinning which in turn gives a significant pressure drop from the impulse.

The tangs (I believe) was used to corral the flame & transfer heat a little more efficiently, wasn't necessary with the immersion rod heater boiler though.
