Some time ago I bought an IND-X wreck for parts. Nothing
unusual here. Great bulletproof steel boiler (just remember
to empty it and allow it to dry), and some other needed pieces.
The other day I was going thru a junk box, saw a photocopier
axle and thought it might be the same OD as the IND-X axle.
It was, so I cleaned it up a bit, cut it down in length, and
with it replaced the original axle. It is a couple of inches longer,
something I will adjust later. I mounted the original flywheel
and valve gear, put it thru the bearing blocks, added the original
pulley, then the flywheel, and then the second pulley. I tightened
the flywheel in the grip of the pulleys, put 10ozs of distilled
water in and turned it on. Heated up pretty quickly and off it
went. I can't say it is a fast runner, but it runs pretty well,
is smoother with the extra flywheel, and looks cool. A fun project
for a mellow morning. I added 3 photos and will add a video later.
Happy steaming,
Wayne
