Lot # 180 a new project arrives --- Videos Added...!
« on: December 04, 2020, 09:28:53 pm »
A week or two back I got my call to bid live at a small auction house located east of Albany, NY about as far as you could go before bumping into the Massachusetts state line. Below are photos of this Jensen 20-G (as arrived) with some modification in addition to all the dirt and dust caked onto it.  The generator was moved so the pulley outside the bearing pedestal could drive it. There is a Jensen Lineshaft driven from the flywheel groove. There is a shaper powered by the small flywheel hub pulley.

My first thought was to take off all the extras and move the generator back where it belongs. Then I thought it would be fun to put the belts on it and run it as is. This way I could feel and experience enjoyment it's original owner may have had. So for the moment, that is the plan.

Now to get it a little cleaner and try to free up a well stuck site glass ring.

Gil

That looks like a nice find, indeed. Congratulations.

The modifications seem to make sense...

I agree with Thomas.  You have so many "perfect" Jensens it will be fun to have an appropriately mod'ed Jen 20.

Fun acquisition.

Thanks, gents. The only re-mod I have performed so far is to remove the aluminum tag and place it right side up.

Here is is a bit cleaner, tag reversed, lamp post straightened.

Next bit of attention will be dealing with this.

  • Warm white vinegar wash out
  • Soak another day on outside with PB Blaster
  • Clean or replace site glass, and gaskets

Congratulation - very nice engine and I like the displacement.
I think it needs only a good cleaning and may show some signs of use.
good hunt at Meissner's.....
I wood like to have one - but delivery to Europe is too expensive.
Waiting for video to see it working!

It is time to have some fun and put the extras to work.!

I set it up by the sink on our wet bar.
Then added the following:

  • a psantama Blue Thunder stepper generator
  • a St Paul Steam windmill
  • a Jensen 15BL generator
  • and a bunch of drive belts

Now that's my kind of FUN, really neat setup Gil , & a handsome #20G unit you got from the auction house...never can go wrong with a Jensen #20G as a purchase & quality entertainment.
WELL DONE !
