Mamod Steam Wagon washers
« on: June 17, 2019, 05:35:16 am »
Started my Steam Wagon yesterday. Sounds nice and quiet. Do not like those tablets though, as other members have said they really stink. Anyway, (or anyhoo if Canadian, my son is now a Canadian), I received some washers this morning:

5 0ff 1/4" fibre washer to suit safety valves
5 off 3/16" fibre washers to suit wash out plug/water level plug
2 off rubber 'o' rings for safety valve top

How do I get the tiny 'O' ring onto the top of the safety valve without damaging it?

Also, looking at a youtube vid they show how to take the whistle apart. Mine must be different as the lever just 'pops off' the barrel shaft and the nut adjusts to get the whistle in the correct place when on the boiler, mine must be welded on.

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated (not with money I am a pensioner LOL).

Cheers

Brian

Is the valve actually leaking at the top where it pops?

No, I don't think it's leaking. I have the washers so thought it might be a good idea to change it.  :(

I usually leave those alone. Maybe someone else can chime in re: whether it's worth changing.

As the saying goes, "If it works, don't fix it".

Don't touch it; you'll probably regret it.
