Three hour drive ain't that bad. Heck it's four hours (about 200 miles) from where I live to anything that you could call a city. Of course in a situation like that, the fuel costs must be added to the purchase price, just like shipping, so it could tip the balance against.
And not just fuel. I'd have to go through Toronto and right into the Niagara Peninsula. Way too crowded, way too busy. I grew up in that mess, and I have never returned.

Yep, that reasoning touched a chord alright. Beginning of last month I had to attend a family thing over in the S. Bay Area where I grew up, but hadn't visited in perhaps a dozen years, I can't drive over there anymore! It's frightening and totally unsafe ... those people are full on crazy!!!
