Electric boiler steam engines for me have two major benefits. They allow me to enjoy running them when the house is shut up either with A/C in Summer or when the house is shut up in Winter with the fire on because they create no fumes.

For me I have 32 years machine shop experience...but very little electrical...so I tend to shy away from things I may not easily be able to repair...also the electric units tend to command a bit higher price, and I also enjoy the romance of open flame.
   From what I have read with a little mod electronic unit Can have even finer control than a BIX burner unit....I understand the value in this....perhaps as the shows open up and I can chat with experienced steamers and the ins and outs of repairing electronic heated boilers....then I Will be comfortable making a purchase!
Speaking of electronic boilers...I made a low bid on a Jensen model #5 with electronic boiler!
   I did not like that it was electronic but the cast metal base of the engine appealed to me...also it has an empire water pump accessory that I wanted....is the Jensen #5 a good engine? My bid was low as the sight Glass was gone and the boiler looked real ruff...

Thanks Jim!...its not what I would call a decorative model, however the machinist side of me can appreciate the heavy cast base quality....later in the video you rev it wide open...some of the entry level models do not sound to good at High RPM....your #5 sounds JUST as happy revving as it does ticking over..a testament the what a solid metal base and good machine work can do! Thanks for sharing....I may up my offer as I want that empire water pump...something awful bad
