Thank you all for the kind words.

Next up and final installment of this trilogy or trifecta is an incredible  precision free lance build of a 5 1/4" gauge Stephenson's Rocket.

Another masterpiece by Don Favell faithfully constructed over the 8 years that include 2010 through 2017. It was a special treat for me to watch him working on parts for this model. If I wasn't visiting him, he would bring it or parts of it when visiting The Office of Steam to show his progress.

My photos are ok but really don't do it justice. I will take photos again after cleaning it up with more natural light.

Enjoy!

Gil

.
The steam pump on the Shand-Mason is frozen.

I have removed the heads from the bottom (pump end) and turned it over to add some PB Blaster to the cylinders.

Hopefully it will free up without too much effort.

I believe it is frozen at the pump end since the steam cylinders look perfect. I would guess he tested the pump with water and a little bit stayed in.

Good news today.

The pumping engine is now free and turns smooth as silk.!!

After 5 days of WD-40 soaking in and another 5 days of PB Blaster soaking in I used a brass pin and a lightweight hammer to tap the pistons a little.

Then I put a perfectly sized very smooth 3/8" open end wrench on the crank arms and gently worked it loose.
Once I was able to get a little movement, the rest came easy!

Always sort of scary trying to free machinery when you don't know for certain what is causing it to be frozen solid.

Congratulations Gil .... patience paid off once again!!!

Beauty of a machine, nothing stays broken to long in the "Office of steam" once you get round to it.😊
