S-50 JPM Completion + OzSteam Demon Chuffer addition
« on: April 20, 2024, 01:13:46 pm »
Today I went by Charlie’s house (Txlabman) to return some borrowed items & he randomly handed me this GORGEOUS OzSteamDemon chuff pot which absolutely looks beautiful on my Steam plant.    He said “I am giving you this to keep as a gift”; my jaw dropped to the floor.   I never expected nor even thought I’d ever get one of these let alone as a gift.

I am not one to boast. I don’t like it. But a gesture this nice must go noticed. He really has gotten me started into this hobby on a strong foot through teachings, ideas, tools, and letting me borrow stuff to have fun with.

I am thankful for your generosity, and, am enjoying all of it.

This really adds to the “finishing touches” and is probably the most valuable item on the plinth!   It will stay on this steam plant but if I ever want to use it on another engine for show I can always unbolt it.

Charlie is a very generous man. He sent me one of the Demon’s famous ball raced lineshafts. I’m trying to collect enough accessories to properly run it and video it and do it justice. I might finally have enough now.
Congratulations on having a genuine Demon Chuff pot, there are no comparisons.

Hey Travis

Clearly you do appreciate the beauty and functionality of the Demon's chuff pot, so that is as it should be!

My only further thought is that it is really too bad you never got the chance to know the Demon (Geoff Swale) himself, for if you did, your appreciation would easily increase at least a thousand-fold!!

He was a truly wonderful and unique individual, as well as a highly skilled and talented maker!!!

Well I am shocked none the less by the quality of the chuff pot.  It truly is remarkable craftsmanship.

Travis, this is not the first or last act of generosity by Charlie; it’s an ongoing kindness that we all witnessed over the years. It’s great to have him as your mentor as well.

I have seen others comments on him donating things to people - very generous indeed.   He’s also great company. I enjoy myself everytime I go over to his steam shop.  There is always things to look at, almost everytime he shows me a new engine in action.  Gives me ideas on builds, often provides small tools, and lets me borrow accessories and engines.

I’ve said in previous posts that this hobby fell into my lap in the last 6 months during a very important time in my life & has been healing for me. I won’t get into details, but, when I asked the man above for a hobby, it came to me… and it’s something I’ve always had an interest in but never really took foot of it. My grandfather was a big steam nut, and I am sure he is enjoying me watching me play with steam toys & engines.

Charlie is very giving & it’s difficult because you don’t want to bombard someone with thanks, as it can feel awkward for the giver, but, I can’t go without thanking him enough!!!  As said, this hobby is saving my life. Might not seem like something like steam engines could save someone’s life, but it is for me.  And without Charlie, this hobby would’ve been far more difficult for me to figure out, and find things.  Because of his giving nature and teaching, I will be a steam hobbiest pro one of these days.  Still learning it all but it’s been such a treat learning.

Thanks Charlie, and thanks to all of you as well!  I am having a blast.

At my house!  I must have 20 pieces that he either made or modified.  His videos are still on YouTube.  You should watch all of them.
