Stuart Beam
« on: September 14, 2019, 06:07:08 pm »
many months ago via TM i purchased a set of Stuart Beam castings .
they had been pre started/butchered
ie base plate holes drilled in wrong place and other issues
cylinder was correct which makes me think it was factory done.
i do not like the off board bearing so i ground the "Stuart" name off and made a crank shaft and have both bearings on board .
before i ground  " stuart " i off i took imprint and cast in aluminium .
cleaned it up and cast 2 brass ones
also the parallel links are brass and stainless rod .
boiler is a 105 mm brass artillery shell with copper end plates
gas burner is modified camping stove via ebay .
also photo 4 ( I think ) main rod from beam to crank is threaded on to bearing . also drilled up end and a cross hole drilled and threaded
and a small brass oil cup fitted to oil main crank

video coming

A terrific result considering what you had to begin with and an interesting build that was to watch Dennis.

Love that boiler!

Certainly brought that one around to be a good runner that ticks over nice and slow.

Yep, them dang steam engines do tend to start easier and run better once the pressure gauge needle lifts a bit off of the zero stop pin .... but that's nothing I haven't done a time or three my own self!
