Stuart copies in miniature
« on: April 12, 2019, 10:48:13 am »
I didn't want to post these in the Stuart thread when in actuality they aren't Stuarts but they were modeled after the Stuarts that I have built over the years.
The first one was modeled after the Stuart #4 and scaled down to fit the parameters specified by the Sherline company for their first model engineering contest. I later built several more, one of which was sold to Mrs. Red Ryder. The small bolts are M1.0 x .25 stainless hex bolts. I made the longer ones for the reverse linkage. It's made from 12L14 steel with drill rod for the shafts.

The next one I built was patterned after the Stuart #10 double but with the dimensions and drawings that I had already made for the singles.

The next mini that I built was made from the parts for the singles but as a horizontal. Awhile after building it I decided to add a working governor so I designed and built it using mini bevel gears that I cut.

I was at an Antique Engine show and a fellow was looking at these tiny engines and said he would love to have one but could I make it from brass. I told him that I could so this is the small horizontal in brass.

Along the line, I don't remember what the sequence was, I built a miniature of the Stuart Twin Launch.

These look great and you have great machining skills that I wished I had.
How tall are the engines?

Very nice and well done.
As some one  who has  just started  dabbling in Stuarts and previously
made “. 66% “  toy steam engines I can see this type  of work in my future if I ever complete  my  “to do “ list

Wow these are amazing miniature models George!

Hard to pick a favourite amongst them all, i do like the horizontal with the working governor but i also like the brass horizontal which would work great with steam.

I just finished reading this article myself, it confirmed what I suspected the whole time....his work speaks volumes ( & loudly) you are a very fine craftsman of the highest order George, we are fortunate to have you here on this forum contributing as you do. some absolutely amazing work, something I would  aspire to be 1/10th as good as.

Very beutiful engines. I could easily imagine the twin in a little model steamboat.
Did you also build boilers for the engines?
