Stuart S50 - A little different
« on: April 16, 2019, 09:46:17 pm »
I bought this Stuart S50 with round crank and gunmetal cylinder from the U.K and thought I'd do something a little different from the norm with it.

I routed out the bottom of the wooden plinth and made up some brass fittings and made all the brass bolts so that the steam line can be easily attached to the right hand side and come up underneath to the PMR valve and then piped the exhaust to the side of the plinth so that its easy to attach a tube to a chuff pot or oil condenser trap. Its a nice neat unit.

Fancy, fancy - I like that! The brass fittings really set off the engine and besides being handy the connections for steam and exhaust add some nice complexity to it - well done!

Larry

Thanks Larry it took me ages to get this built. It was pretty fiddly as I'd never done anything like this before.

I really do like how its nice, compact and neat.

Thanks Bruce, I did learn a lesson with this. You know the ready machined PMR elbows? They are REALLY cheap compared to the unmachined ones you buy in cast 'tree'. Wow there's a lot of work in machining them!

Very nice installation but you certainly have a lot of brass to polish!

Appreciate the replies everyone, I had a lot of fun thinking this one out and getting it completed.

I'm not all that huge on polishing. If I have to take something apart I will give the brass a buff up, but thankfully I'm in the camp of not minding the natural tarnish look that develops on brass.

Jim, that is slicker than owl snot. Best S50 I've seen, hands down. You did a superb job-and you've made me rethink what I thought was my "acceptable" S50 mount and fit.
